An annual Special Olympics Bocce Ball Tournament is held in Camilla, GA. It is hosted by the Mitchell County Service Center for athletes in Camilla, Albany, and Cairo, over 125 athletes, coaches, and supporters from across the region attend the 13th Camilla Bocce Invitational.
The Camilla Rotary Club has been the primary sponsor of the event for each of the thirteen years it's been held. Club members cook and serve lunch for the athletes as well as assisted with all aspects of the event including course set up and take down. The First Baptist Church of Camilla provided water for the athletes. Westwood Schools provided the facilities for the event. The students from Westwood's National Honor Society served as officials.
Each athlete receives a trophy, a T-shirt, and play BINGO for prizes. The Special Olympic coordinator for the event Shari Hogan, states that 'the Rotary Club is a huge help. Without their support throughout the years, this event would not be possible." This is one of the best service projects for Camilla.
The Bocce Ball Tourney is a signature event of Camilla Rotary Club.
